Three of New York City’s major Jewish agencies have given up independent campaigning to become part of the 1947 campaign for $65,000,000 of the United Jewish Appeal of Greater New York it was announced today by Sylvan Gotshal, president.
The agencies involved in the merger are the Joint Defense Appeal which raises funds for the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith; the American Jewish Congress; and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
Leaders of the U.J.A. and the three agencies expressed the belief that the merger will facilitate the attainment of the U.J.A. goal in New York and eliminate duplication of effort. They saw the move as part of a trend towards greater unity in Jewish life.
