Creation of a National Council for the Joint Defense Appeal was unanimously adopted at a meeting of the JDA national executive committee held here last week, it was announced today. The meeting was called for the purpose of hearing latest developments in the field of defense and to adopt measures that would secure greater cooperation among leaders of welfare funds for the Joint Defense Appeal.
It was decided to hold a national JDA conference this winter. Speakers discussed domestic defense work, community service activities, the overseas program, scientific research and chapter activities of the American Jewish Committee.
Delegates from Jewish communities throughout the country hailed the establishment of the National Council as the first step in setting up a comprehensive organization that would seek out and find leadership for the Joint Defense Appeal and would aid in raising the annual JDA campaign quotas needed to finance the defense program of the American Jewish Committee and the Anti-Defamation League. The 1946 campaigning of the Joint Defense Appeal for $5,000,000 was reviewed.
