The fiftieth anniversary of the Joint Foreign Committee of the Anglo-Jewish Association and the Board of Jewish Deputies, the body acting in behalf of British Jews for the protection of Jewish rights, was celebrated at the Sunday session of the Board of Jewish Deputies.
Claude G. Montetiore in his address outlined the work of the Committee since 1878 pointing particularly to its work since the World War. He paid tribute, to the unceasing efforts and abilities of Lucien Wolf, Secretary, who received an ovation when he rose to reply.
Mr. Wolf said that the Committee had established friendly relations with the League of Nations and with the governments of countries which had not been friendly before. These governments have made valuable concessions for their Jewish populations.
Congratulatory messages were received from the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, the Alliance Israelite Universelle, from Eric Colban, former director of the Minorities Department in the Secretariat of the League of Nations, Nahum Sokolow, chairman of the Zionist Executive, and others.
