A scroll conferring an honorary fellowship of the Royal Society of Health was presented here to Dr. Jonas Salk in recognition of his major contribution in the fight against poliomyelitis. The presentation was made by Lord Cohen of Birkenhead, President of the Royal Society and one of Britain’s most distinguished physicians.
Dr. Salk subsequently journeyed to Leeds where he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Science from Leeds University.
Dr. Salk came here to address the International Health Congress next week and to confer with British medical authorities. He is a native of Manchester, England. The London Sunday Observer, in a half page profile of the young American Jewish scientist today, called him “the most famous doctor in the world.”
