The arms recently received by Jordan will be used only against the enemies of the Arabs, Premier Wasfi Tal said today over Radio Amman. Tal was replying to charges in the Egyptian and Syrian press that the arms were meant to strengthen Jordan’s hand against the Palestinian terrorists and against possible intervention by other Arab states. He said the weapons would be used for the liberation of captured Arab lands, including the former Jordanian West Bank and the former Syrian Golan Heights. Tal’s statement was the first official confirmation by Jordan that she had recently received heavy arms in large quantities.
