Jordanian units fired at Israeli settlements and patrols in the Beisan Valley today, precipitating a third successive day of shooting duels across the cease-fire line. A military spokesman also announced that two local Arab field workers were killed and a third injured when their truck hit a mine near Kfar Tabor this morning.
Jordanian units first fired this morning at an Israeli patrol in the northern Beisan Valley, then directed small arms fire at Shaar Hagolan and then at Yardena. The fire was returned and no casualties were reported. Yesterday Jordanians fired at an Israeli patrol near Neveh Urr, starting a gun duel with Israeli units. Later shooting occurred near Gesher.
An Israeli soldier and a woman settler of Yardena were wounded slightly Friday when Jordanians fired mortar shells at Yardena and Gesher. Earlier Friday, they fired on a patrol in the Beisan Valley. Some of the exchanges took place as thousands of Israelis celebrated the last day of Passover on Lake Tiberias. Others journeyed to the El Hamma Springs on the Israeli-Jordan-Syria frontier.
