Jordanian units opened fire on Israeli forces near Yardena in the Beisan Valley this evening, a military spokesman reported. The fire was returned. There were no Israeli casualties.
Lt. Gen. Odd Bull, chief of the United Nations cease-fire observers corps, will go to Egypt tomorrow on what was described by his aides as a routine visit. It is believed that he will inspect UN observers posts along the Suez Canal. Foreign Minister Abba Eban will leave for Europe later this week for a meeting with Ambassador Gunnar V. Jarring, the UN special peace envoy to the Middle East. Dr. Jarring will leave New York tomorrow for London and Stockholm. He is expected to return to his headquarters at Nicosia, Cyprus, some time after Aug. 13 to resume his mission. Mr. Eban will fly to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, after his meeting with Dr. Jarring, to preside at a meeting of Israeli envoys to the African states.
A military tribunal in Nablus pronounced a life sentence yesterday on 23-year-old Walid Mouhamed Katsrawi of Jenin, who was convicted of aiding an El Fatah gang Involved in the murder of another Arab. The victim was a resident of Jenin whom the El Fatah suspected of “collaborating” with Israel.
