Jordan’s King Abdullah backed Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat’s demand that a peace deal must grant millions of Palestinian refugees the right to return to homes they fled in Israel’s 1948 War of Independence. According to Jordan’s Petra news agency, Abdullah told Arafat during talks in Amman that fulfilling the rights of Palestinians was a precondition to any lasting peace in the Middle East.
