Jordan’s King Abdullah did not deliver a message to President Clinton from Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein indicating that he is ready to play a more constructive role in the peace process, according to U.S. officials. Several Arabic newspapers reported last week that Abdullah would convey such a message. Abdullah met with Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in Washington on Wednesday, when they discussed the Middle East peace process, Jordan’s economic reform program and broader regional issues, including Iraq, the officials said.
