Joseph Meyerhoff, nationally-known Jewish communal leader, was elected today as president of the Palestine Economic Corporation, the pioneer American economic development company in Israel established 32 years ago. Mr. Meyerhoff, who resides in Baltimore, Maryland, succeeds Rubert Szold, who will remain as chairman of the Board of P.E.C. Mr. Meyerhoff was elected to his new post at a regular meeting of the Corporation’s Board of Directors.
For many years an active leader in every program of assistance to Israel, Mr. Meyerhoff is chairman of the National Campaign Cabinet of the United Jewish Appeal, and a member of the national executive committee of the Israel Bonds Organization. In his native Baltimore, Mr. Meyerhoff holds positions of leadership with the Associated Jewish Charities of Baltimore, the Baltimore Hebrew College, Sinai Hospital and Beth Jacob Congregation.
