Jewish youth problems will occupy the limelight at the national convention of Young Judaea, opening here Friday. The program has just been made public by Rabbi David Polish, a national vice-president and general chairman of the local convention committee.
The convention will open with a tour of Cincinnati’s points of interest. Friday night the Young Judaeans will hear Mayor Russell Wilson deliver an address of welcome Rabbi Samuel Wohl, of Isaac M. Wise Temple, will be principal speaker.
On Saturday morning there will be a special convention religious service in the chapel of the Hotel Netherland Plaza. Mordecai Brill, of Indianapolis, will conduct the services, and Paul Brownstein, of Cincinnati, will officiate as cantor. The Saturday afternoon program consists of a series of cultural meetings. Dr. Jacob S. Golub, director of the Bureau of Jewish Education, Cincinnati, and Dr. Emanuel Gamoran, director of the Department of Synagogue and School Extension of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, will participate.
BUSINESS SCHEDULED
A convention dance for the delegates, visitors and local participants is scheduled for Saturday night.
Business sessions are scheduled for Sunday. Special sessions will be devoted to Palestine and the Palestine youth movement. The annual election of officers will be held in the afternoon.
In the evening the visitors and local committee will assemble for the convention banquet, during which the newly-elected officers will be installed. I. A. Abrohams, of Cincinnati, will be the coast-master, and Rabbi Samuel Blumenfield, of Chicago, will be the principal speaker.
Business sessions will be resumed Monday. The convention will be brought to a close with an Ohio River boat ride to Cincinnati’s Coney Island.
National officers who will be present include David Levine, New York, president; Lawrence Meyer, New York; Frank Rubin, Boston; Miss Dinah Rausen, Chattanooga, and Rabbi Polish, national vice-presidents; Miss Racille Srolovitz, New York, secretary; Louis Rocker, New York, treasurer. Governor Herbert Lehman, of New York, honorary president, has been invited to attend.
