Demonstrators shouting “Long Live the Jewish State” paraded through the streets of Bucharest last night to the Great Synagogue where thanksgiving services were held to mark the establishment of the Jewish State.

Speakers included Chief Rabbi Alexander Shafran, Mishu Benvenisti, president of the Zionist Federation, and a representative of the Jewish Communists. All stressed the importance of the U.N. decision in the history of the Jewish people and paid tribute to the role played by the Soviet delegation at the General Assembly.

Telegrams were sent to the Jewish National Council in Palestine, assuring it of Rumanian Jewry’s unconditional solidarity in the building of a Jewish state, and urging the Jewish Agency to convey Rumanian Jewry’s thanks to the 33 nations which voted for partition, particularly the United States and Russia.
