“Today we must stand as guardians of the Republic to see that no encroachment on local power takes place behind the false front of federal aid,” declared Municipal Court Justice Pelham St. George Bissell, speaking last night before the Bronx Rehoboth Lodge of B’nai B’rith at Vasa Castle Hall, 149th street and Walton avenue.
Discussing the ideals of individual and community freedom, Judge Bissell maintained that “unconstitutional acts cannot be justified because there is an emergency.”
He denounced Fascism and Communism as “the enemies within our gates” and declared that these two ideas are enemies of liberty which is sacred to Americans.
