Governor Rockefeller has announced the appointment of Judge Charles D. Breitel to serve on the New York Court of Appeals, the highest tribunal in the State.
Judge Breitel, 58, has been in the first department of the Appellate Division in Manhattan since 1952. The appointment of the Jewish jurist is effective on January 1. He will serve on the Appeals Court by appointment until the end of 1967. He is then expected to be the Republican nominee for a full 14-year term in the general elections in November, 1968. Judge Breitel served as a member of the board of directors of the Jewish Board of Guardians, and is a trustee of B’nai B’rith.
