Family Court Judge, Jacob T. Zukerman, president of the Jewish Labor Committee; died after a brief illness at his home last night in Brooklyn. He was 68 years old. Funeral services will be tomorrow. Judge Zukerman played a leading role in both Jewish labor life and in Jewish social work circles. He was the leader of the English speaking section of Workmen’s Circle from the time of its founding, and of its predecessor organization the Young Circle League, and he was the first American born president of Workmen’s Circle, elected in 1954.
He served a number of terms as president of the Forward Association, publishers of the Jewish Daily Forward. At the time of his death he was serving his second term as president of the Jewish Labor Committee. He was an active socialist and a leader in Social Democrats, U.S.A. and had been a Liberal Party candidate for Brooklyn Borough President.
Judge Zukerman, in addition to being a lawyer, was also a social worker and for 19 years was Executive Director of the Family Location Service, an agency of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies. He also served as president of the National Conference on Jewish Communal Service and as Chairman of the Family Law Division of the American Bar Association. He has been a Judge of the Family Court since 1955.
