Judge Miriam Ben-Porat was this week appointed president of the Jerusalem District Court. She is the first woman to hold so high a judicial office in Israel, Judge Ben-Porat, 57, has been on the bench for close to 20 years. Her appointment was at the instance of Justice Minister Haim Zadok. She succeeds Judge Benzion Shereshevsky who was sworn in Wednesday as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
