The honorary degree of Doctor of Hebrew Letters was awarded today to former Federal Judge Simon H. Rifkind and Dr. Harry J. Carman, Dean of Columbia University, at the 56th annual commencement exercises of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America, here.
The commencement was dedicated to the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, which was held this week-end. To mark the occasion, seven past presidents of the Assembly received degrees of Doctor of Divinity, and seven other former presidents were awarded the Solomon Schechter Citation. Seventeen graudates were ordained, while 30 other students received various degrees and diplomas.
