Judge Bernard A. Rosenblatt, American member of the Finance and Economic Committee of the Zionist World Organization sailed yesterday on the S.S “Paris” on his fourth visit to Palestine in the course of the last five years.
Asked the purpose of his journey, Judge Rosenblatt stated that he is particularly interested in making a study of the present economic development of Palestine, especially the possibilities for new interprises. He said, “Every tourist returning from Palestine emphasizes the extraordinary need for first-class hotel in Jerusalem. Over eight thousand tourists were turned away last Spring from the Allenby Hotel, where they could not be accommodated. With the new interest in Egyptian explorations, and with the revival of the Holy Land in Zionist effort, Palestine bids well to become, in the next few years, a country rivalling Switzerland in its appeal to the tourist.
“From the point of view of the development of the land itself, it is of the utmost importance that a first class
hotel be established in Jerusalem in the shortest possible time. I am glad to announce that we have succeeded in arranging for the financing of a hotel in Jerusalem to be operated by Mr. George Barsky, the present owner of the Allenby Hotel, which we believe will meet the needs, at least for the next few years. The hotel will consist of 240 rooms and will occupy one of the most important sites outside the walls surrounding the Holy City. The hotel will be ready in about eighteen months.
