Douglass Simpson will be sentenced today in Washington Heights Court following his plea of guilty Tuesday on a charge of altercation with Irving Berman, a Jew, whom the defendant threatened to “kill just like they do in Germany.”
Simpson, an electrical engineer, of 518 West 204th street, arraigned before Magistrate Jonah J. Goldstein in the Harlem Court, offered to apologize to Berman, who lives at 1560 Wilkins avenue, and sentence was postponed until today. The judge suggested that in the meantime Simpson make a contribution to the American Committee Against Fascist Oppression in Germany.
Magistrate Goldstein declared that he could sentence the defendant to the workhouse for six months, adding, “Your language was un-American and inexcusable.”
