The Adolf Eichmann case must not absorb Jewish interest to the exclusion of “far more important business-the responsibility of the Jewish people to those who were so fortunate as to escape Eichmann’s slaughter of innocents, “Judge Simon E. Sobeloff of the United States Court of Appeals warned here.
Judge Sobeloff was the principal speaker at a dinner on behalf of the Combined Jewish Appeal of Metropolitan Chicago. Howard Mesirow, general chairman of the Appeal, announced that, thus far this year, the CJA has raised $4,528,119, an amount “considerably ahead of the sum raised at this point in the campaign a year ago.”
Those who survived the atrocities committed by Eichmann and his kind, Judge Sobeloff told the 250 Chicago leaders assembled at the dinner, have “necessarily become the care of their kinsmen. American Jews were the greatest single force in their rescue. We must not let the Eichmann case overshadow our responsibility to the living, the survivors.”
