Judge Matthew O. Tobriner, of the District Court of Appeals here, was elevated by Governor Edmund C. Brown to the bench of the State Supreme Court, highest court in the state. Judge Tobriner will be the second member of the local Jewish community to sit on the Supreme Court. The first was the late Judge M.C. Sloss. Judge Tobriner will assume his place on the bench on July 1.
