Leaders of the Jewish community in Jugoslavia welcomed with satisfaction an ordinance issued by the Minister of Education prohibiting proselytizing in the country.
The ordinance declares that all attempts to win converts from one religion to another must be prevented in accordance with the law which protects every recognized faith and provides severe penalties for all attacks, blasphemies and insults to the institutions of the respective religions.
“The maintenance of religious peace in our religiously heterogencous state is eminently a matter of public interest. In order to protect this state interest the government must prevent all proselytizing activities,” the ordinance declares.
