(Jewish Telegraphic Agency)

Julius Goemboes, notorious Hungarian anti-Semitic leader, was appointed Secretary of State in the Ministry of War, according to an official announcement in the Hungarian government paper. The predicted appointment of Geza Desi, Jewish jurist and member of the government party, to the post of Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice, which was expected to be announced simultaneously with Goemboes’ appointment, did not materialize.

Opposition deputies charged the Bethlen government today with making a move in the wrong direction, one which will harm Hungary. The appointment of Goemboes, an intransigalent anti-Semite and militarist, will make an unfavorable impression abroad and will harm Hungary’s efforts for a peaceful revision of the Treaty of Trianon, was the comment of former Minister of Justice Nagi.
