Fifty-six fellowships, totaling $90,000, and sixteen scholarships, worth $10,000 in all, have been awarded by the Julius Rosenwald Fund, Edwin R. Embree, president of the fund, announced here yesterday.
Those receiving fellowships are thirty-five Negroes and twenty-one white Southerners chosen for their talent and superior scholarship from some 400 applicants. Scholarships averaging $400 plus tuition expenses went to sixteen prominent members of this year’s graduating classes in selected Negro and white Southern colleges and universities. Recipients will do advanced study. This is the thirteenth year the fund has been awarding fellowships. Awards are made annually.
