Alaska’s only Jewish mayor was re-elected this week when Mayor Isadore Goldstein, well known pioneer who came to the North-land in ’85, was chosen again by a large majority to head this city.
In Nome Edward Seidenverg, former Seattle resident and also a well known Alaskan figure, was elected to the city council. Mr. Seidenverg and Mayor Goldstein are Alaska’s only Jewish public officials.
Mr. Goldstein was mayor of Juneau for several terms about twenty years ago. He and his brother, also widely known in the Far North, own the largest department store and the largest curio establishment in the territory. They are also leading fur dealers in the Northland. Mr. Goldstein was in Seattle last month on a visit to his sister.
