Fifty English children under five who have been evacuated from English cities to the countryside for the duration of the war, will be cared for a full year by the Aleph Zadik Aleph, the B’nai B’rith youth organization.
Decision to “adopt” the English youngsters for a year was made at the 18th annual convention of the organization taking place here. The youth order voted to give a fund of $2,500 raised during the year by its various chapters to the Red Cross for the maintenance of the evacuated children at a cost of $50 per child per year. Sheldon Singer, 18, of Sioux City, Iowa, was the winner of the Aleph Zedik Aleph oratorical contest. Second honors went to Robert Safer of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
