“Justice for Jerusalem” was the theme of an address delivered by Msgr. John M. Oesterreicher, director of the Institute of Judaeo-Christian Studies at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., to 250 clergymen and educators attending the 31st annual institute on Judaism here. “My conscience demands that I stand by the people of Israel in its hour of trial and I make it clear that Jerusalem must remain united,” the Catholic leader declared. “I consider the foundation of the State of Israel and the rejuvenation of the Jewish people, as well as the reunification of Jerusalem as revelatory events,” he said. The Msgr. noted that never before have the holy places in Jerusalem of Christians, Moslems and Jews been as safe and inviolate as they are today and that Jerusalem today is truly a universal city.
