The Rabbinical Association of Greater Kansas City, representing the Orthodox, Conservative and Reform religious leadership of the Jewish community here, called today upon civic, business and labor leaders of the city to act “with dispatch” in eliminating racial segregation “and inequality in the social, educational and economic spheres of our community life.”
Expressing “our profound sympathy with the Negro community in Greater Kansas City in its struggle to achieve full emancipation and equality in our midst,” the rabbis urged the members of their congregations “to act in all their business and social contacts with their fellow citizens in the Negro community in accordance with the moral imperatives of our historic religious tradition.” The statement added:
“We call upon every individual in the Kansas City Jewish community to note that, by proper attitude and conduct toward his Negro neighbors, he can make an important personal contribution toward solving the most serious moral problem confronting the American people in our generation.”
