Leaders of the Kashruth Association and the Poultry Slaughterers Union, Local 440, A. F. of L., met yesterday with Aldermanic President Bernard S. Deutsch to discuss reforms in the industry.
At Mr. Deutsch’s suggestion a committee consisting of Arthur Simon, confidential investigator for the Department of Health, and members of the kashruth and slaughterers’ groups, to be chosen by mutual agreement, will work out a plan for the elimination of various abuses.
The plan which is to be submitted to Mr. Deutsch and the city administration will, broadly speaking, cover the subject of protection of all legitimate shoctim so far as employment is concerned and will endeavor to rid the industry of the system of “speed killing,” such as is practiced in the Bronx and elsewhere.
Another group, to act as an advisory sub-committee of rabbis, will be named shortly.
