Kasruth Association to Call Convention for Supervisions Plan

At a meeting of the committee of 100, the governing board of the Kashruth Association of Greater New York, held Monday night at the Broadway Central Hotel, it was decided to convoke a city-wide convention of the presidents and representatives of the 1,500 orthodox congregations in New York City for the purpose of considering the kashruth question and in order to advance the centralized and uniform community supervision plan for kashruth, for which the orthodox rabbinate and many noted laymen here have devoted the last two years through the medium of the Kashruth Association.

According to Rabbi Nachman H. Ebin, who acted as chairman of the meeting, the Kashruth Association is determined to guard the interests of the kosher-consuming public in connection with the formation of trade organizations and the drafting of fair competition codes for submission to the National Industrial Recovery Administration. “Steps will be taken,” said Rabbi Ebin, “to present the point of view of the consumers and the interest of the Jewish community before the National Administration approves the codes which are to govern trade practices in the several branches of the kosher industry and to regulate prices of Kosher food-stuffs at a higher level than the prices affecting non-kosher food-stuffs.”
