Ben Kaufman of Tranton, New Jersey, was elected National Commander of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States at the closing session of the 46th annual convention today. He succeeds Fred S. Harris of Meriden, Conn.
Commander Kaufman is one of the six Jewish holders of the Congressional Medal of Honor which, during the World War was awarded to only seventy-two men.
Resolutions adopted at the convention reaffirmed the Jewish War Veterans traditional Americanism policy of condemning Fascism, Communism and Nazism; paid tribute to the late Congressman Michael Edelstein; called upon labor and management “to rise above purely individual interests for the greater good of the country; “deplored discrimination against any race, color or creed in defense industries; and urged Congress to amend its franking privilege so that it can be used only for official business.
National Vice-Commanders elected were: Samuel Rivkind of Boston; Sol Mesch of New York City; Harry Berkie of Hackensack, N. J.; Nat Roth of Miami; Dr. Robert Rosen of Detroit; and Samuel Baur of San Francisco.
