IN THE FIVE-YEAR PERIOD FROM 1933 TO 1937 THE PALESTINE FOUNDATION FUND (KEREN HAYESOD) AIDED IN THE IMMIGRATION AND SETTLEMENT IN PALESTINE OF MORE THAN 175,000 JEWS FROM POLAND, GERMANY AND OTHER LANDS, IT WAS ANNOUNCED TONIGHT AT THE FUND’S ANNUAL MEETING AT THE HOTEL ASTOR; SINCE 1921 THE FUND HAS SPENT $31,000,000 FOR THE ECONOMIC AND AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE JEWISH NATIONAL HOME. IT WAS POINTED OUT THAT AMERICAN JEWRY, WHICH HAS CONTRIBUTED APPROXIMATELY $15,000,000 TO THE TOTAL SUM RAISED BY THE FUND, WOULD BE CALLED UPON TO PROVIDE THE MAJOR SHARE OF THE FUNDS SUPPLIED BY WORLD JEWRY FOR THE FUTURE UPBUILDING OF PALESTINE.
THE MEETING WAS ATTENDED BY MORE THAN 800 MEMBERS AND GUESTS. SPEAKERS INCLUDED DR. SOLOMON GOLDMAN OF CHICAGO, HONORARY VICE-CHAIRMAN OF THE UNITED PALESTINE APPEAL; CHARLES RESS, SECRETARY OF THE PALESTINE FOUNDATION FUND, WHO PRESENTED THE FINANCIAL REPORT: DR. MAURICE B. HEXTER, MEMBER OF THE JEWISH AGENCY’S JERUSALEM EXECUTIVE, LOUIS LIPSKY, CHAIRMAN OF THE PALESTINE FOUNDATION FUND, WHO PRESIDED, AND DR. STEPHEN S. WISE, NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE U.P.A., WHO BROUGHT GREETINGS OF THE CAMPAIGN’S OFFICERS.
