Dr. Hussein Khaldi, Arab Mayor of Jerusalem, is now ready to share municipal work with Daniel Auster, Jewish Vice Mayor, as soon as the Palestine government makes provision for such division of work, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today.
Previously Dr. Khaldi not only had refused to allow Mr. Auster to share in municipal duties, but even had refused to assign him an office in the city hall.
The about-face executed by the Arab Mayor assures the Jews of Jerusalem some share in the gove### the city, in which they fa######ber the Arabs in population. The six Jewish municipal councillors have protested vigorously against the action of Dr. Khaldi. A meeting of Jewish representative bodies has been called to safeguard the rights of Jews elected to office.
In the previous administration of Ragheb Bey Nashashibi, the Jews were completely ignored in municipal affairs. Many Jews in the ward which elected Dr. Khaldi voted for him on the supposition that he was progressive and would cooperate with the Jewish councillors.
