Soviet Prime Minister Nikita Khrushchev was reported here today as having stated to a delegation of American War Veterans that the Soviet Government is “toying with the idea” of allowing Jewish emigration from the Soviet Union “at some future time.” He was quoted here to this effect by Harry Lieb, of Encino, Calif., who was a member of the war veterans delegation.
Mr. Lieb, who arrived here from Moscow en route back to the United States, was one of the four members of the delegation who had a 90-minute talk with Khrushchev. During the talk, said Mr. Lieb, he asked the Russian leader why the Soviet Union does not allow its Jews to leave for Israel or for other destinations. According to Mr. Lieb, Khrushchev replied: “We are toying with the idea that, at some future time, we will allow any national to leave Russia at any time.”
