The Daily Telegraph reported today from Cairo that Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev had promised Arab leaders during the current visit to Egypt that the Soviet Union would more than match in supplies to the Arab countries any modern weapons given to Israel by the Western Powers. The United States. Britain and France were named specifically.
The Soviet Premier was understood to have specified that this promise applied particularly to aircraft, rockets and guided missiles.
The Soviet leader met yesterday with Ahmed Shukairy, the head of the recently formed “Palestine Entity” allegedly representing the Palestinian Arab refugees. Shukairy told the Soviet Premier that the “Palestine Entity” regarded the “liberation” of Palestine from Israel as inevitable. Premier Khrushchev restated to Shukairy his earlier pledge of support for the Arab stand on the Palestine issue.
