King Carol, addressing the Rumanian Parliament, appealed today for unity, the burying of internal enmities and urged all parties not to waste the resources of the nation in “internal hatred.”
His address was taken to indicate that the king disapproved of activities of anti-Semitic extremist parties and wished order enforced.
“In the atmosphere of keen anxiety which prevails in the world at present, it is my duty to call on the sense of responsibility of all Rumanians,” he said. “My appeal goes beyond momentary demands. In view of the existing strife and difficulties all souls should be united.
“In this dark hour the resources of the nation must not be wasted on internal hatred, but must be mobilized for the defense of rights, which have been entrusted to us with enormous sacrifices on the part of our predecessors,” he said.
