King George Honors 6 Jews; Wauchope Reappointed for 5 Years

King George’s New Year honor list elevates Sidney Solomon Abrahams, chief justice of Tanganyika, to the baronetcy. Myra Hess, pianist, is made a commander of the civil division of the order of the British Empire for her services to music.

The same title was conferred upon Percy Cohen for his political services and to the Reverend Moses Isaac Cohen of Southern Rhodesia for his social services. Eliahu Krause of Palestine is created an honorary member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to agriculture.

The Colonial Office issued an announcement that the King has extended the appointment of Lieutenant General Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope as High Commissioner and Commander-in-Chief of Palestine and High Commissioner in Transjordan for five years from Nov. 20, 1936. He was originally appointed on Nov. 12, 1931 and in 1934 his term was extended two years.
