King Hussein of Jordan Tuesday night blamed PLO executive member Mohammed Milhem for the breakdown of the talks between Foreign Secretary Sir Geoffrey Howe and a joint Jordanian-PLO delegation, scheduled to have been held Monday. He ridiculed Milhem’s claim that Britain, under pressure from the U.S., made last-minute alterations to the statement worked out a week earlier in Amman by Britain, Jordan and the local office of the PLO. Hussein told a press conference at his London residence that the British government had acted very honorably. It was not clear from his remarks whether Hussein still regards the PLO as a viable partner in Middle East diplomacy.
