More than $10,000,000 has been collected by the Ku Klux Klan from its members, according to a committee which, charging that the organization now has none of the funds in its treasury, has declared it will bring suit in the Federal court for the restoration of the funds it alleges were misappropriated by Klan officials.
The committee has sent out a letter giving notice of an effort to bring about Federal intervention. The committee’s letter was sent to those who answered advertisements published in newspapers all over the country.
The letter was signed by W. F. Brandt, New York attorney, as secretary.
The letter, purporting to give “the true conditions and facts existing at the present time in the Klan situation,” asks: “Do you know what has become of all the moneys collected by Imperial Klan headquarters? Do you know that more than $100,000,000 has been taken in by the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan from the American people throughout this country, and that the organization cannot account for one single item of real estate in its name and right?”
