Otto Klemperer, exiled German-Jewish musician, will conclude his four-week engagement as conductor of the New York Philharmonic Symphony orchestra this week. Immediately after his final concert October 28, he leaves for the West where he will conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic in sixteen concerts during the months of November and December, the opening concert being scheduled for November 8. On January 4, he will once again be heard in the East when he begins a seven-week engagement with the Philadelphia orchestra.
For his final program with the Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Klemperer has arranged a program consisting of Weber”s Overture to “Der Freischuetz,” Leos Janacek”s Sinfonietta, and the Beethoven Seventh Symphony.
HIAS AUXILIARY BENEFIT
The Rose N. Lesser Auxiliary of the Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) will inaugurate its activities for the season, October 29, with a theatre party at the Booth Theatre where
“The Distaff Side” will be viewed.
PALESTINE LIGHTHOUSE BENEFIT
The Palestine Lighthouse, Hotel Ansonia, of which Mrs. Samuel D. Friedman is president, will hold its annual theatre party on Tuesday evening, December 4, at the Winter Garden Theatre, where “Life Begins at 8:40” is playing. Proceeds of the benefit performance will go to aid the blind children in Jerusalem.
