The Israel Parliament today adopted a first reading of the new election law, fixing June 30th as the date of the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.
The Parliament also passed the Transition Law, which provides that the present Parliament be dissolved at the very moment that the newly-elected Parliament is convened. This law was passed in the face of opposition by Mapai, Israel’s Labor Party, which demanded that Parliament be dissolved a day prior to the elections of the new body.
