The Israeli Parliament at a late session today appeared the government-sponsored austerity program. The vote was 57 against 33, with may abstentions.
Dev Joseph, Minister of Food and Supply, summing up the arguments in favor of the plan, said that a total saving of 17,000,000 pounds–about $51,000,000–annually will be achieved if the austerity program is effected. He emphasized that austerity is only a part of the over-all government program aimed at bringing down the cost of living and consolidating the Israeli currency.
