The President of the Bundestag assured a visiting Knesset delegation today that Israel can rely upon West German support and that West Germany shares Israel’s anxieties concerning the situation in the Middle East. Annemarie Renger described the thinning out of Israeli forces in Sinai as a demonstration of good faith and expressed hope for an appropriate Arab move towards rapprochement. She spoke at a plenary session of the Bundestag which greeted the Knesset delegation with a standing ovation.
The six-man delegation, headed by Knesset Speaker Yisrael Yesheyahu, was received here by President Walter Scheel and in West Berlin by Mayor Klaus Schuetz. The delegates will visit the site of the former Nazi concentration camp at Dachau and will also visit Munich, Speyer and Worms. The latter two cities were among the oldest centers of Judaism in Germany. The visit is Yesheyahu’s first to West Germany and is expected to be returned by the Bundestag Speaker.
