A delegation of Knesset members and other Israelis met with President Richard von Weizsacker of West Germany on Thursday, shortly before he was scheduled to leave for the United States.
The Israelis were invited here by the Justice Ministry on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the German Federal Republic.
According to a participant in the meeting, the president and his guests focused on comparisons between the Israeli and West German election systems.
The Israelis, who are considering electoral reform, showed interest in adopting some of the German methods, the participant said.
The Palestinian uprising and Israel’s recent peace initiative were also discussed.
Von Weizsacker is due in Washington on Friday to attend several events marking his country’s anniversary. He is also scheduled to meet with American Jewish groups.
