The Israel Parliament tonight gave final approval to a bill to establish a memorial in Israel to the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis and their Fascist allies in Europe. The bill was passed unanimously, but the Herut deputies did not vote. Afterwards, the Knesset adjourned for a five-minute period of mourning for the victims.

The bill provides that the memorial be established in Jerusalem, and that as part of the memorial a research project be undertaken to collect documents pertaining to the Jews’ heroic fight against their exterminators, such as the uprisings in various ghettoes. It also mentions the role of non-Jews who risked their lives to save Jews. All exterminated individuals and communities will receive posthumous Israeli citizenship.
