The Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, last night rejected by an over whelming majority two motions demanding a debate on Israel’s anti-Apartheid votes in the United Nations General Assembly affecting South Africa.
In presenting the motions to the Knesset, Arieh Ben-Eliezer, of Herut, and Shlomo Lorincz of Agudat Israel, criticized Israel’s support of the UN condemnation of South Africa as extreme, although both rejected Apartheid. Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion told the Deputies: “We would not have been true to ourselves, to our moral heritage and to our position in the family of nations if we had not joined in this protest.”
