The Parliament of Israel has been called back into session on Wednesday, October 12, it was announced here today. It is believed that Premier-designate David Ben Gurion will have his coalition government ready for presentation to the Knesset by that date.
Meanwhile, a committee representing the five groups who now appear to be ready to form a coalition–the Mapai, Mapam, Achdut Avodah, Progressive and Religious Bloc met today to attempt to settle various of the differences which still have not been ironed out among them. The “basic divergences” between the religious group and the other parties include the matter of religious education, “self-determination” for immigrants and the breeding of hogs.
On the last point, no progress toward agreement seems to have been made, but on the immigrant question it has been agreed that newcomers will be permitted to choose the settlement of which they will become members. On the education question, “some progress” has been reported. Mr. Ben Gurion will sum up the remaining differences in writing and will then ask each of the parties to comment on his summation.
