Adjournment of the present session of the Knesset, Israel’s Parliament, for the August 15 national election was tentatively set today for June 14. The legislative program scheduled to be handled before adjournment concerns mainly provisions for the election.
Today the Knesset unanimously approved the first reading of a bill which provides for the abolition of exit visas now required for all Israelis and permanent residents desiring to travel abroad. The bill, introduced by Interior Minister Moshe Shapira, will become effective October 15 if it passes a final reading. The 1,500,000 pound annual revenue now derived from fees charged for the issuance of exit visas, will probably be replaced by an increase in the travel tax.
