The Israel Parliament voted to discuss the aims and future of the Zionist movement. Premier David Ben Gurion, one of the chief protagonists in the transoceanic debate in the Zionist movement, opposed the debate but indicated he would participate in it when it comes off.
The issue was raised by Itzhak Harari, Progressive Party leader, who called a full dress debate vital in view of world Jewry’s interest in Israel and the need to harness this support for Israel’s massive needs. In discussing the necessity of a debate, the Premier held that Zionism’s aims are clear–ingathering of exiles and immigration.
