The Knesset has voted unanimously to extend the age of eligibility for military draft to persons aged 45-54. The bill, which passed its first reading, also extended the validity of emergency regulations governing draft age to the end of 1970. Defense Minister Moshe Dayan said the older age group would serve in civil defense and that the bill was intended primarily to strengthen the civil defense corps.
The Knesset also unanimously approved a measure to increase the national budget by $21.5 million through defense loan sales abroad.
